TOP MELON

The initiative wass realized by "3A-Parco Tecnologico Agroalimentare dell’Umbria" in cooperation with Top Melon s.r.l. and University of Perugia funded by Mis. 124 of PSR 2007-2013 of the Umbria Region.

The goals of the project were the realization of agricultural techniques in the chain of the melon in Umbria in order to extend the production period; the reduction of chemicals and the optimization of water resources.

Project activities:
  • test execution to evaluate the joint use of several means to protect/stimulate growing and different materials depending on the cultivation period;
  • characterization, in terms of physical and chemical parameters of the melons produced during the field tests;
  • realization of a innovative wireless sensor network to manage and optimize the water use

ENIAC - ARTEMOS

Agile RF Transceivers and front-Ends for future smart Multi-standard cOmmunications applicationS.
Strategic Objective:
ARTEMOS aims at developing architecture and technologies for implementing agile radio frequency (RF) transceiver capacities in future radio communication products. These new architecture and technologies will be able to manage multi-standard (multi-band, multi-data-rate, and multi-waveform) operation with high modularity, low-power consumption, high reliability, high integration, low costs, low PCB area, and low bill of material (BOM).

Unit involvement:
The main obiective of the University of Perugia unit is the development of an envelope-tracking 2.4GHz power amplifier for WLAN applications. The circuit is based on a 90nm CMOS technology and uses a discrete resizing of the final transistors to reconfigure its output compression point from 20 to 30 dBm with a good power-added efficiency.

Interactive power Devices for Efficiency in Automotive with increased reliability and Safety

Strategic Objective:
A major challenge related to electronic devices in the automotive is the reliability of the power supply systems which must be capable to assure the functionality of the subsystems  in all operating conditions and while ageing. Whether for conventional vehicles or electrified ones, electronic packaging impacts on the overall complexity, efficiency, safety against crash and safety against fire. The main goal of the project is thus developing advanced packaging for power supply components and new generation memory systems having application on Electric and ICE propelled vehicles

Unit involvement:
The Unit of Perugia is involved in the IDEAS project about the full-wave analysis and characterization of interconnections and packaging

Energy efficiency and sustainability are major concerns in society today. The lighting industry is going through a radical transformation driven by rapid progress in LED lighting, semiconductor technology, and the need for sustainable and energy-efficient solutions.

Intelligent lighting:
The ENLIGHT project aims to exploit the full potential of LED lighting through breakthrough innovations in integrated lighting solutions beyond retrofit applications. This includes intelligent lighting systems. The goal is to reduce energy consumption by up to 40% compared with today’s LED systems.
