The Applied Physics Laboratory (Thermal Science, Energy Technology and Building Physics) promote research, testing and design in both the industrial and building fields, in order to optimize the energy, technical-economic and environmental performance of innovative materials, products and processes.

In particular, the Applied Physics Laboratory, synergistically with the Acoustics, Thermotechnics and Environmental Control Laboratories, performs certification and experimental activities concerning sustainable development and environmental footprints, in accordance with the technical standards ISO 14046, UNI EN ISO 14064 and UNI CEN ISO/TS 14067, having advanced equipment and computer codes.
The activities of the Applied Physics Laboratory include further studies and research in:
  • thermophysics and thermoenergetics of green buildings;
  • energy efficiency in transport and urban mobility;
  • Smart Cities;
  • Smart Grids (natural gas, district heating etc.).

The Applied Physics Laboratory, in synergy with the Acoustics, Thermotechnics and Environmental Control Laboratories, has adopted a Quality Management System (QMS), certified according to UNI EN ISO 9001, in order:

  • to increase customer and partner satisfaction and to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the organization by complying with requirements, achieving expected results, continuously improving processes, reviewing design at appropriate stages and planning new services;
  • to obtain acknowledgements, both nationally and internationally, for the pursued research activities aimed at university education and technology transfer by producing high quality papers, participating in the main conferences of the areas of interest and involving qualified customers and partners in the projects;
  • to maintain UNI EN ISO 9001 certification for the provision of research and testing services in industry, buildings, environment and energy by complying with technical standards, solving nonconformities and corrective or preventive actions and demonstrating the suitability and effectiveness of the QMS.

Therefore UNI EN ISO 9001 certification is an opportunity for the Applied Physics Laboratory to continually progress.
